We are all familiar with the traditional sports stadium “wave” – but this Iowa team is putting a new spin on it.
During the Iowa Hawkeyes football game against the Wyoming Cowboys last weekend, the sold-out Kinnick Stadium was asked to turn towards the University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital across the street and wave to the sick kids on the top floors.
The heartwarming gesture is just one of many initiatives that the sports team has taken to assist the children’s hospital – the team’s “Touchdowns For Kids” campaign has asked Hawkeyes fans to pledge $1 to the hospital for every touchdown that the team scores.
Last year alone, the team raised over $40,000 for the children’s hospital, adding to their whopping total of $400,000.
